Is an AI Chatbot Worth It for a Small Business?

Every chatbot vendor's website will tell you yes. Here's a more honest version of the question.

When it's genuinely worth it

If you're already losing leads to slow after-hours response times, answering the same handful of questions repeatedly, or juggling multiple message channels without a consistent system, the math tends to work out — a flat monthly cost against real lost revenue from missed inquiries is usually an easy comparison.

When it might not be, yet

If your business gets very little inbound message volume in the first place, or your website doesn't have enough real content for an assistant to be trained on meaningfully, the value is thinner. A chatbot amplifies an existing flow of questions — it doesn't manufacture interest that isn't there.

The real comparison to make

Compare the monthly cost against what a single missed lead is worth to your business, not against zero. Most small businesses find that even a couple of recovered leads or bookings a month covers the cost many times over — but that's a calculation worth actually doing with your own numbers, not taking on faith.
